Thread Lift

Overview

Laxity and descent of facial skin and soft tissue are common features of aging process. Various facial rejuvenation procedures have been invented to address these problems. Currently there is a growing trend patients pursue minimally invasive procedures with reduced downtime and fast recovery for facial rejuvenation.

Thread lifting is a minimally invasive facial rejuvenation procedure that has been practiced for many years. The use of PDO threads in facial aesthetics has become popular in recent years. PDO (polydioxanone) is a biomedical material that is used as absorbable sutures in surgery since many years ago with proven safety record. There are various types of PDO threads e.g. monofilament, twined thread or bi-directional cogged threads and the selection depends on the condition and severity of the skin. In facial rejuvenation, PDO threads are inserted just beneath the skin. The PDO threads will get absorbed by the body in about 6 months. However the threads stimulate the skin to produce collagen which contribute to increased skin contraction and firmness for much prolonged period. The overall effects are skin tightening and lifting, which on average last 1 to 3 years

PDO thread lifting does not require incision and thus avoid scarring. The procedure is suitable for minimal to moderate facial skin laxity and uneven facial texture. It can be performed to correct neck laxity as well. Compared to surgical procedure, the downtime and recovery is relatively short.
